Did the Leafs insult 3rd stringer Dennis Hildeby?
Should he have gone to Sweden?
HockeyFeed
The Toronto Maple Leafs went out and signed veteran goaltender Martin Jones to serve as backup to starter Ilya Samsonov, but they've elected to go in a different direction - especially with young Joseph Woll having emerged and played admirably last season in the playoffs after Samsonov went down with injury.
However, it wouldn't be long before they made the call to place Jones on waivers, though he went unclaimed. He has since been playing with the American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.25 goals against average and .864 save percentage.
With the Maple Leafs off to Sweden, the thought was that the Leafs would bring along Swedish native Dennis Hildeby as the third stringer behind Samsonov and Woll. However, they decided instead to bring Jones instead.
And needless to say, there were more than a few confused responses to the news, many of whom felt that Hildeby should have been included.
Did the Leafs make a mistake by not bringing him rather than Jones to Sweden for the NHL Global Series?
