The good news for the Detroit Red Wings is that they've picked up points in two fo their first three games thanks to victories over the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets following their squeaker of a loss on Opening Night against the contending New Jersey Devils.

The bad news is that forward Robby Fabbri, who has suffered a pair of ACL injuries in his career and also missed significant time last season, was banged up in the first game and hasn't played since. And while the Red Wings didn't anticipate his injury to be of the serious variety, they still don't expect him to be available by tomorrow night when they bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins to Little Caesars arena.

“Fabs not quite there yet,” Lalonde said today of Fabbri. “Tested it out early before practice today. Just take it game by game. Hope to have him for the weekend, especially with a couple days off.”

Fabbri did score late against the Devils, his first of the season.

The Red Wings anticipate rolling with the same lineup tomorrow night that hit the ice at Nationwide Arena last night, a 4-0 win over the Blue Jackets.

Additionally, the status of former Penguins veteran defenseman Jeff Petry has yet to be officially determined; he was designated a healthy scratch for last night's game.

“I know we’d like to have Jeff back in the lineup Wednesday,” Lalonde said.

“(Petry) played well,” Lalonde continued. “Our play power, five on five was good. Good luxury now with our seven D. No one’s separated themselves in a negative way. Both Olli and Petry’s scratches were very similar. Not a whole lot of reason why. We’re kind of at that point now. There will be some other guys get their number called for a sit out and expect them to do just what those two did – handle it like a pro and we’ll try get you back in as soon as we can.”

The 36 year old defenseman is in his first season with his hometown Red Wings after being traded from Montreal over the summer.
