Disturbing update on first overall pick Macklin Celebrini.
An insider source claims Celebrini played despite being injured in his first ever NHL game.
A disturbing report about the injury to first overall pick Macklin Celebrini has just emerged and I can't help but wonder if the San Jose Sharks may have made a huge mistake here.
As many of you reading this will already know, it was announced today that Celebrini would be sidelined for some time and was being placed on injured reserve by the Sharks organization. Furthermore several members of the Sharks organization would go on to suggest that Celebrini would be evaluated on a week to week basis, suggesting that this is likely to be more of a long term injury.
The disturbing details coming out now however come to us courtesy of Sharks insider Sheng Peng, who on Saturday evening reported that Celebrini was already injured when he set foot on the ice to make his debut in the National Hockey League.
"Opening night he played through it," said a source as per San Jose Hockey Now.
That is disturbing when you consider the fact that Celebrini is now expected to miss significant time as a result of this injury, and it does raise the question of whether or not Celebrini would have been better off recuperating rather than playing in his NHL debut. Celebrini certainly didn't seem bothered by the injury in his debut, recording a goal and an assist for the Sharks despite dealing with the injury.
Peng was also able to provide more details regarding the nature of the injury revealing that his sources have informed him that Celebrini is currently dealing with a hip injury.
Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
