Here we go again…

LAST UPDATED AT 3:07ETPM

The Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes were supposed to play the first game of their series last night, however, it was postponed to Wednesday morning at 11ET when the first contest of the series between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets went into fifth overtime, making it impossible for the Bruins and Canes to jump on the ice after that.

The story repeated itself on Wednesday as the Lightning tied things up late in the third period of the fifth contest of the series, pushing the game into overtime as the Blue Jackets were on the brink of elimination.

As the contest went on, it was clear that Game 5 between the Bruins and Hurricanes would get reschedule. The Canes face elimination and the game was scheduled to start at 4ET pm. The Montreal Canadiens are set to play later tonight in the same ice, as they need to win Game 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers to stay alive in the postseason.

The first period of overtime started at almost 3ET, which does not give the NHL the mandated 75 minutes period to clean the ice, benches and dressing rooms to get the Bruins and Canes’ game going at 4ET in Toronto.

Delays are therefore expected. We just don’t know if they will affect the start time of the game between the Habs and Flyers later tonight.

Because the first game of the series went into fifth overtime, you could tell no one knew how long this one would be.

The National Hockey League was probably skating its head that the first game of the daily schedule was pushed to overtime, especially with a total of three contests taking place on the ice in Toronto on Wednesday.

UPDATE: Brayden Point scored in overtime (again), eliminating the Jackets and making the schedule manageable from now on. The Bruins-Hurricanes game is expected to start 15 to 20 minutes than first expected as the NHL needs time to get the ice ready for action.

That’s part of bubble hockey!
