Domi jumps and suckers Batherson for making regular hockey play on Shaw...

It's a well-known fact in the National Hockey League, Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi has his father's temper. And it got a little out of hand on Tuesday night as the Habs faced the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.

In the first period, young centre Drake Batherson clipped Habs veteran forward Andrew Shaw, on what appears to be a regular hockey play. While it appears that Shaw's head gets involved in the hit, it is clear that Batherson did not raise the elbow to target his head and did not go after him. While the hit looks somewhat messy and awkward, it seems more like Batherson went for a reverse hit and Shaw fell to the ice.

Domi wasn't a fan of the hit and immediately jumped Batherson, who declined the invitation to fight. The Habs forward was having none of it and still dropped the gloves to let Batherson know you do not treat players with a heavy concussion history that way.

Shaw appeared to be fine following the hit.

You can see different angles of the hit and fight in the videos available here below:

Both Domi and Batherson headed to the box for roughing, but the Habs player got the extra penalty. Several insiders were even confused on why Batherson was joining Domi in the sin bin, seeing he clearly did not want to fight.

As many people are aware in Montreal, Shaw has quite the concussion history that he even considered retiring last season when he suffered yet another head trauma. However, after undergoing surgery on his knee this summer, he returned to action with the same attitude and intensity. We can however understand why fans and teammates are worried about his condition. Domi surely wanted to make sure Batherson would not pull a move like this again on Shaw in the future...

Like some fans may not appreciate the temper of Domi, you have to love his offensive talent and patience for precision passes. Moments later in the same period, Domi feeded a fantastic feed to Jonathan Drouin on a two on one and to beat goalie Craig Anderson and get the first goal on the contest. See the goal here below:

In the preseason, Domi was suspended for five contests after punching Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad during an exhibition game. Domi began tugging on Ekblad’s shirt, asking him to fight. With the Panthers star showing no interest to drop the gloves, Domi punched him in the face twice, but still Ekblad didn’t respond. The Habs player, who was making his debut with the team, then dropped his right glove and sucker punched him right on the nose, and the bloodied Ekblad dropped to the ice. Domi was given a minor, major and match penalty on the play.

Tonight's fight wasn't as bad but Domi needs to be careful in the future...
