Vegas Golden Knights star forward Mitch Marner has gotten off to a great start with his new team, picking up a pair of goals and 8 assists for 10 points through the first 9 games of the season, but on Sunday night he had arguably his toughest game since making the move to Las Vegas.

Marner and the Golden Knights clashed with the struggling Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night and the Lightning were more than the Golden Knights could handle for much of the contest. Marner was hounded by 23 year old Lightning forward Dominic James all night long and it proved to be effective with Marner completely held off the scoresheet. Not only did Marner fail to register a point, but he wouldn't even so much as register a shot on goal through the entire game.

James would ramp up the intensity late in the game, seemingly hunting for Marner when both men were on the ice, and midway through the third period he would find his man. James hammered Marner, who tends to be pretty elusive on the ice, with a big hit that sent Marner hard into the boards and seemed to finally cause the Golden Knights forward to lose his cool.

Much to his credit, Marner would bounce back up and tried to turn the tables by hunting for James, but when Marner found his opportunity to get his revenge it quickly blew up in his face. As Marner closed in for the hit, the bigger James simply shrugged him off and sent Marner back down to the ice for the second time in a matter of seconds.
