The 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft was probably a lot more dramatic than many would have predicted, and at the center of all that drama was Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright. Projected to go first overall, Wright would fall all the way to #4 where he would be selected by the Kraken who happily snatched up a player that many believe was the top talent in the draft.

It would appear that you can count veteran NHL analyst Don Cherry among that group. On his most recent podcast, Cherry kicked off the show by sharing his thoughts on Wright falling to the Kraken all the way down at #4.

"I watched the draft and I'm absolutely in shock," began Cherry. "Shane Wright goes 4th, I mean that is unbelievable to me. I hope this Kent Hughes knows what he's doing cause he's going to get all the blame."

Cherry would continue to reiterate his disbelief at what befell Shane Wright at the draft, but he also went a step further. Cherry revealed that he believes Wright will still emerge as the best player in this draft class.

"I was absolutely shocked, shocked is the word, that they didn't pick Shane Wright," said Cherry on his podcast. "I still think he's the number one."

Cherry also expressed some concern for the man who was behind the surprise decision from the Montreal Canadiens, their general manager Kent Hughes. Cherry knows firsthand how passionate the Habs fan base can be and he warned that they could quickly turn on Hughes if Slafkovsky doesn't prove to be the player they think he is. Or perhaps even worse yet, that Wright does in fact turn out to be the best player in the draft.

"I'll tell you one thing, Kent Hughes better be right on this [Slafkovsky] guy," added Cherry. "He better be right on him because they will be waiting for him, those fans are tough down there."

Only time will tell whether the former host of Coach's Corner will be proven right, or if Kent Hughes will be vindicated in his selection of the big Slovakian forward.
