Don Cherry goes viral for latest post on Maple Leafs following Game 7 prediction
Grapes saw, once again, the Maple Leafs fall short. This is what he now has to say, down below:
With Sunday’s loss, the Toronto Maple Leafs have now lost more Game 7s than any other franchise in NHL history — a total of 16, breaking a tie with the Boston Bruins. But even worse than the B’s, the Leafs made the playoffs in nine straight seasons and been eliminated in a Game 7 in six of those years. No other franchise has lost more than four Game 7s over that span. The Leafs haven’t won a Game 7 since 2004.
After the loss on Monday, former Canadian hockey coach and NHL commentator Don Cherry dropped one tweet with a picture of Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, asking the Hockey Gods and the Maple Leafs, what now?
His post came just a day after Grapes dropped a special podcast with his personal Game 7 prediction between the Leafs and Florida Panthers. Cherry said:
“I’m predicting that Toronto would win, I’m going Toronto will win, all the way.”
But Grapes was wrong and now he is looking at the same questions everyone is, especially management and ownership in Toronto. What changes need to be done to make sure this does not happen next season. Mitch Marner is most likely gone and up on the free agent market, and who knows if team president Brendan Shanahan will be back.
A lot will need to happen and it just feel like Grapes’ trending post is the right thing to say at the moment.
For the Western Conference Final, without hesitation, Cherry picked the Edmonton Oilers to be the winners over the Dallas Stars. Let’s start with Game 1 tonight and see who takes the lead in the series.
