In the recent days, Sportsnet has cleaned house, parting ways with three long-time reporters and insiders, sending shock waves throughout the league.

On Wednesday, longtime NHL insider Nick Kypreos parted ways with Rogers owned broadcaster Sportsnet, making the announcement himself on social media. It was also announced that his Hockey Central co-host Doug MacLean parted ways with Sportsnet that same day.

On Thursday, there was another Rogers casualty as it was revealed by Steve Simmons that fellow Hockey Central panelist John Shannon has been shown the door at Sportsnet.

The many changes prompted Sean Fitz-Gerald of The Athletic to tell fans what to expect next season with the many changes coming to Sportsnet as it will look and sound different when hockey returns.

Fitz-Gerald concludes his piece with his view on the future of Don Cherry on the air. It is not the first time we wonder this summer if Grapes will return, but now will all the cuts being made at the network, it is easy to see what fans would want him as a casualty above other reporters.

However, Cherry mentioned several times this summer that he would return on the air for Coach’s Corner and two sources on the network side said Cherry would be keeping his usual seat on air. But Sportsnet has yet to make it official.

“I guess it’s all over Twitter,” he said. “The bosses phoned me. When they saw it, they couldn’t believe it, either. They said there’s not one bit of credence in any of it at all. That’s why it’s out of the blue. That’s why it sort of hit me that hard.”
