Don Cherry reveals prediction for the Stanley Cup Final.
Don Cherry names his pick and reveals why he is picking them to go all the way.
There are very few people on planet earth alive today that have consumed more about the sport of hockey than former National Hockey League analyst and living legend Don Cherry. That's why when Cherry announced his prediction for the Stanley Cup Final on Monday morning, my ears perked up a little.
Cherry released the latest episode of his podcast on Monday morning and it was during his appearance on that show that he would announce who he believes will hoist the Stanley Cup this year.
"I'm still sticking with Edmonton," said Cherry full of confidence.
In spite of the fact that his co-hosts on the podcast both went with the Florida Panthers, Cherry was adamant in his selection of the Oilers. When his son, Tim, pointed to the goaltending advantage the Panthers have with Sergei Bobrovsky between the pipes, Cherry was hearing none of it.
"Skinner is playing just as good," said Cherry. "Whether he'll do it in the Finals, we'll see."
Many teams have appeared to be intimated at times in these Stanley Cup playoffs by the imposing style employed by the Florida Panthers, teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes, but Cherry argued that the grit in Edmonton's bottom six would more than match what the Panthers can bring to the table on that front.
"No, the third and fourth line they'll make sure of that," said Cherry.
Now it must be said that Cherry has always had something of a pro-Canadian bias to his commentary and analysis throughout his career, no doubt part of what has made him such a beloved figure in that country, so take that into consideration when analyzing today's prediction.
Do you agree with Cherry's analysis? Are the Oilers headed for a Stanley Cup championship? Let me know what you think in the comments.
