Don Cherry rips Elias Pettersson, tells him to “go home.”

Grapes weighs in on the Canucks' soap opera season!

What would Don Cherry do if he was coaching the Vancouver Canucks?

He'd send star forwards Elias Pettersson and JT Miller home.

“Send them home. That’s the only way you can [deal with it]. Send them home. Go home.” Cherry said on this past weekend's episode of The Grapevine Podcast.

With rumors that the Canucks are looking to trade at least one of Pettersson and Miller to end a perceived locker room rift, Cherry says that Miller is likely to be move simply because there's no trade market for Pettersson.

“Nobody would want him,” Cherry said of Elias Pettersson. “He’s the third-highest [paid player in the NHL]… he had one good year.”

While Pettersson is only the 5th highest paid player in the league, Cherry's sentiment is still sound. He has just 30 points in 42 games following a 102 point campaign in 2022-23 and an 89 point campaign last season.

Still, you have to imagine that there's a robust trade market for the talented centerman, especially once he is removed from the Vancouver soap opera.

Early on in the 1st period of tonight's game between the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks and hockey fans already have plenty of action.

First up, Canucks captain Quinn Hughes helped put his team up 1-0 early in the game with a beautiful cross-ice pass to Conor Garland to open the scoring.

And on the very next face-off, Blues captain Brayden Schenn knocked Canucks forward JT Miller out of the game, at least momentarily, with a one punch directly on the button!

Miller left the game presumably to be checked out by medical staff, but has since returned to the penalty box.

The New York Islanders are desperately trying to shore up their blue line it would seem.

After already adding controversial defenseman Tony DeAngelo to their roster over the weekend, the Islanders have now made yet another move to add yet another defenseman to their roster.

In an official announcement, the Islanders have confirmed that they have acquired 26 year old defenseman Scott Perunovich from the St. Louis Blues in a trade on Monday afternoon. In exchange the Blues will receive a conditional 5th round draft selection at next year's draft, the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Perunovich, a former second round pick (45th overall) from the Blues at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in 24 games for the Blues this season scoring 2 goals and adding 4 assists for a total of 6 points. Perunovich also has 6 penalty minutes on the season and currently boasts a plus minus rating of +1

Since being drafted by the Blues he has appeared in a total of 97 regular season games, scoring 2 goals and addding 27 assists for a total of 29 points, as well as 7 playoff games over which he has a very respectable 4 points, all of which are assists.

It seems extremely likely that this move is a direct response to the injury suffered by Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock over the weekend, an injury the Islanders confirmed earlier today when they placed Pulock on injured reserve. The fact that the Islanders went out and made a trade so quickly probably doesn't bode well for the severity of Pulock's injury.

Stay tuned for additional details.
