In spite of the fact that it has been many years since he has been a feature on the broadcasts for Hockey Night in Canada, Canadian icon Don Cherry has remained a beloved figure in the hearts and minds of many Canadians across the country and it is exactly for reasons like this.

On Monday morning, Cherry took to social media to share a very special message with his fans and followers, wishing to remind everyone of a tradition that is very near and dear to his heart. With Remembrance Day just right around the corner, Cherry wanted to remind everyone he could reach to support the members of the Canadian Armed Forces by purchasing and wearing a poppy. Not only is the tradition meant to support the men and women fighting in the Canadian Armed Forces today, but it is perhaps more importantly a way to honor the memory of the thousands of men and women who have died fighting for their country in the past as well.

"Don't forget your poppy!," wrote Cherry on social media.

The tradition has always been one that has meant a great deal to Cherry, who has always expressed his sincere love and admiration for the Canadian Armed Forces, and of course it was at the center of his controversial exit from the Sportsnet broadcast.

Despite that, Cherry has remained undeterred in his support of the Canadian Armed Forces and continues to bring attention to the tradition even if it could potentially paint him in a negative light in the eyes of his detractors.
