Doughty warns reporters that he will stop talking!

Drew Doughty is sounding a little bit like President Donald Trump at the moment. It feels like he is crying out about fake news… 

Last month during his Western Canadian road trip, the Los Angeles Kings defenseman wasn’t hard to notice. After Doughty scored the OT winner against the Flames and silenced the Calgary crowd as he went on to shout obscenities at them, he continued his rampage in Vancouver when facing the Canucks.

After losing 8-2 to the Vancouver Canucks, Doughty took a candid shot at the team, not giving much credit to the club…

“It’s (expletive) just embarrassing. A team like that should not be beating a team like ours 8-2, there’s absolutely no way.”

He however seems to be saying that media twisted his words, which makes him feel like he should keep quiet from now on as he mentioned ahead of the Kings’ contest against the Maple Leafs. Here is what he had to say in Toronto, per Chris Johnston of Sportsnet.

“If you guys wants us to be able to say things and be honest with you and then you’re going to go run with it and just get attacked by it, we’re just going to stop talking.”

His comments made in Vancouver have recently prompted the Canucks to make a brilliant new team shirt with ‘Team Like That’ as their motivation line. They are selling it to their fans and so clearly making money off Doughty’s back!

Maybe that’s why Doughty wants to shut up now… 

It wouldn’t be the first time a professional athlete calls out media for twisting up words and focusing their stories on the wrong angle. We will have to see how tonight’s game between the Maple Leafs and Kings and what Doughty will or won’t say after the contest.
