Ryan Murphy was a solid offensive defenseman when he was with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL. A point-per-game producer at the age of seventeen, Murphy was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NHL entry draft, 12th total by the Caroline Hurricanes.
Since then, Murphy played two full years in the OHL and has been back and forth from Raleigh to Charlotte. Now 23 years-old, Murphy is struggling to crack an NHL spot and according to Darren Dreger, he's up for grab!
As Dreger reported, there's at least 3 teams who showed interest in the right-handed defenseman. While he wouldn't say which team, he stated there was a western conference's team among them.
"I hear the Montreal Canadiens, the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche are actively seeking for some help on the blueline" said Elliot Friedman. Two eastern teams and a western team, coincidence?
