Drew Doughty takes a nasty spear to the body.

That looked unpleasant.

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was in a world of hurt this evening, but he really doesn't have anyone to thank for that but himself.

On Saturday night the Kings' star defenseman was on the receiving end of a brutal spear to the body, one that appeared to catch him right in the stomach area, but it was one that he delivered to himself. Doughty was chasing Minnesota Wild forward Joel Eriksson Ek around the Kings' net but was also trying to look up at the situation developing in front of the Kings' net at the same time, a combination that would prove to be rather painful.

Due to the fact that he was distracted, he misjudged his distance to the net and wound up planting his stick into the netting and practically impaled himself on the opposite end of the stick in the process. The force of Doughty's forward momentum, as well as the anchoring from the Kings' net, cause Doughty to be speared by his own stick and completely stopped him in his tracks.

The way his body jerks up into the air upon impact... that must have hurt.

This angle really shows just how hard of a spear Doughty took from the stick, it's no wonder he stayed down for several moments after the fact.

This angle might be the worst one of them all however:

Here's a short clip of Doughty checking out the damage he's done to himself.
