Kyle Dubas, who was the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs for several years until his termination this offseason, has since resurfaced with the Pittsburgh Penguins as their president of hockey operations. He replaces Brian Burke, who was groomed out of Pittsburgh along with now-former GM Ron Hextall after the team missed the postseason for the first time since 2006.

He's already made a handful of acquisitions for his new club, including 2023 Stanley Cup champion Reilly Smith from the Vegas Golden Knights along with re-signing goaltender Tristan Jarry to a questionable five year contract. And now, in addition to former Maple Leafs player Andreas Johnsson, he's brought aboard another familiar face that he knows dating back from his Toronto days.

Goaltender Garret Sparks has been signed by the Penguins, and will be used as depth within the organization.

Sparks has bounced around the American Hockey League as well as the ECHL since his Leafs days, and has also spent time within the organizations of the Golden Knights as well as Los Angeles Kings.

He owns a total NHL record of 15-18-2 with a 3.05 goals against average and .899 save percentage. Last season splitting time between the Springfield Thunderbirds and Orlando Solar Bears, Sparks posted a record of 1-2-0 with a 2.38 goals against average, .924 save percentage and a single shutout.
