A lot of drama surrounded the Chicago Blackhawks last winter. Reports came out about a possible relationship between Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith's ex-wife. The former denied the allegations multiple times and even threatened to sue the journalist who first broke the story. Duncan Keith stayed silent for the biggest part of the story, keeping his focus on hockey. In the end, the 'Hawks won a third Stanley Cup in six years and the defenseman won the Conn Smythe trophy, being unanimously voted as the playoff MVP. But off the ice, thing didn't go so well for Keith. In the middle of a divorce, he had to keep balance between hockey, his trouble and raising his two-year-old son. For that reason, Keith missed the annual Blackhawks Fan fest in Chicago. For the first time, he opened up about his relationship with Sharp, talking to the Chicago Tribune. Per Sportsnet:
"I'm not going to lie: It has been a long year and extremely difficult.... I know there was a lot of talk throughout the year regarding Sharpie and that was all a complete fabrication as well. My divorce had nothing to do with anything except what was between me and Kelly-Rae, and that's where I'd like to keep it. "Hopefully people can respect that and give us our privacy to move forward and co-parent our son.… It's obviously not the way I wanted things to be or drew them up. At the same time, you have to find a way to focus. For me, it usually was getting to the rink and turning the switch to hockey.''
It appears the defenseman holds no grudge again Sharp, who is now a member of the Dallas Stars.
