The offer sheet is already having serious consequences for the Anaheim Ducks.
The Anaheim Ducks are already feeling the pressure after matching the ridiculous 5 year x $18 million offer sheet the Philadelphia Flyers signed Ducks star forward Leo Carlsson to last week.
Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal is reporting that the Ducks are now looking to move on from former 30 goal scorer Frank Vatrano, with the news breaking during an interview with Oilers Now's Bob Stauffer. According to to Dhaliwal, the Ducks are going to have to pay a premium to get rid of even useful players.
"The Ducks are trying to move some players so they can sign Cutter Gauthier," revealed Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal on Oilers Now. "Anaheim is going to have to attach some sweeteners to get rid of guys like Frank Vatrano."
Dhaliwal's information on this comes from a source that revealed to him the Ducks were already trying to make a move of this nature with some help from the Canucks.
"Someone told me today the Ducks did call Vancouver to see if they would take Vatrano off their hands," confirmed Dhaliwal.
According to the insider, the gigantic offer sheet signed by Leo Carlsson has left the Ducks in a horrible position.
"They gotta free up money, tons of money for Gauthier, they're screwed," added Dhaliwal. "The offer sheet screwed them."
While it is true that Vatrano took a massive step back with the Ducks this season, he is a player that is just 2 seasons removed from a 37 goal season. His cap hit is also relatively manageable at $4.571 million per season for the next 2 seasons and the fact that the Ducks are trying to move him this badly shows just how much the Flyers have crippled the Ducks' cap structure.
It is looking like a bigger and bigger nightmare in Anaheim by the minute, and no one around the NHL is going to be offering the Ducks any help unless there is a big price attached.
