Waiver wire action for Tues, Dec. 6th.
The NHL waiver wire is absolutely buzzing with activity today.
First up, Colorado Avalanche forward Alex Galchenyuk has successfully cleared waivers and can now be assigned to the team's AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles. Given the team's injury to Nathan MacKinnon last night though, there's reason to believe that Galchenyuk will actually stay up with the Avs. More to come on that.
Galchenyuk's teammate Jayson Megan however did NOT pass through waivers unclaimed. The Anaheim Ducks made a claim on the veteran forward.
The 32 year old forward has gone pointless in 14 games for the Avs this season, but has three goals and six points in 9 games with the AHL Eagles. The Ducks will be Megna's fourth NHL franchise since beginning his career back in 2013. In total he has 10 goals and 25 points in 162 games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Avalanche.
Also hitting the waiver wire today are San Jose Sharks forward Evgeny Svechnikov, brother of Carolina Hurricanes star Andrei Svechnikov, and Winnipeg Jets forward Dominic Toninato.
The 26 year Svechnikov has struggled to find a regular, every day role in the NHL over the past few years bouncing around from the Detroit Red Wings, to the Jet and now to the Sharks. He has three goals and six points in 20 games for the Sharks this season and 15 goals and 37 points in 133 career games split between the aforementioned franchises. Look for him to receive assignment to the AHL's San Jose Barracuda if he clears through waivers tomorrow.
As for Toninato, he has appeared in just four games for the Jets this season, scoring one assist. I can't imagine that a team takes a chance on him via waivers, honestly. He's 28 years old and hasn't been able to establish himself thus far in his career, at this point he's mostly an NHL/AHL tweener who can provide depth for a team at both levels. In total he has just 12 goals and 30 career points split between the Jets, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche.
