Duncan Keith breaks his silence on the Kyle Beach situation.
Is Keith being honest?
In spite of the fact that the story is now out in the open and has been well documented by a wide variety of media outlets in the hockey world, the story surrounding former National Hockey League first round draft selection Kyle Beach won't be going away any time soon.
Not only has Beach's decision to come forward forever changed the landscape of the NHL, the league has already vowed to ensure this will never happen again and has launched several initiatives towards achieving that goal, but several of those involved in the case have already been punished. Joel Quenneville is out of job, Stan Bowman is out of a job, Al MacIsaac is out of job, but despite those high profile executives feeling the brunt of that punishment, the players who were on that Blackhawks team have been spared a similar fate.
Perhaps no member of that 2010 Chicago Blackhawks team however has faced more criticism than veteran defenseman Duncan Keith. Keith, who now plays for the Edmonton Oilers, made the controversial decision not to participate in the investigation conducted by law firm Jenner & Block, a decision that has led many to attack the Oilers defenseman for his perceived reluctance when it comes to helping Beach in this case.
Keith said earlier this month that he regretted that decision, but recently he spoke on the topic of Kyle Beach and his decision to come forward with his story. I have to be honest Keith's decision to avoid the investigation does make this come off as a little less than sincere.
"It hurt to read and see what happened,” said Keith to Blackhawks insider Mark Lazerus. "My thoughts are with Kyle, and I hope some sort of resolution can be made. I think the Hawks are doing that. They’re working on that."
This feels very much like a public relations type of answer and again it comes off the heels of Keith refusing to participate in the investigation. In spite of the fact that Kyle Beach has claimed everyone in the locker room was aware of what had transpired, comments that have been supported by other former Blackhawks players such as Brent Sopel, Keith continues to claim he had no knowledge of what occurred before Kyle went public.
