The Chicago Blackhawks announced their general manager and president Stan Bowman had stepped down on Tuesday in the wake of an independent investigation into allegations that a then-assistant coach sexually assaulted two players in 2010. The report, called “disturbing and difficult to read” by CEO Danny Wirtz, has been handed over to the NHL.

However, the report revealed a lot! Not only the disturbing details that the victims had to suffer, but also information on management knowing about this and some players being aware as well of the abuse by Brad Aldrich that took place. To make matters worse and even more disgusting, the victim, John Doe revealed, by the report, that players taunted him with derogatory words and asked if John Doe missed “his boyfriend Brad.”

This is absolutely disturbing. The Hawks’ roster has changed a lot since 2010, but three players are still in the NHL, two in Chicago in Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. Duncan Keith is now with the Edmonton Oilers.

The latter reacted to the report on Wednesday, first sending his thoughts to the victims.

He added that he didn’t know about the allegations at the time and that he never heard homophobic slurs directed at the victim.

"Obviously, it should have been handled differently." Keith said along with that he didn't know about it, and never heard any homophobic taunts from anyone on the team then or in future years."

"I didn't know. ... If it happened now and it was something I was made aware of, for sure, you'd have to say something. There has to be something done. It's obviously unacceptable. It's brutal what that guy had to endure and deal with, and probably still deals with today."

You have to wonder if Keith will be called forward to give more information on this. While he says he didn’t know about the allegations, I wonder how he knew which victim and how that person was not told derogatory slurs…
