Dunn and Trouba drop the gloves after the game ends and all hell breaks loose.

The New York Rangers and the St. Louis Blues are highly unlikely to meet in the postseason this year but there is no doubt that there was very much a playoff atmosphere to the game these two teams disputed on Saturday night.

The Blues handled the Rangers in relatively easy fashion eventually triumphing by a score of 5 - 2, but it was at the end of the game that we got the real fireworks display. It is unclear what started the incident but what is clear is that in the final seconds of the game New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba suddenly decided that he was the National Hockey League's unofficial lumberjack and began to chop at the legs of St. Louis Blues defenseman Vince Dunn. Dunn was carrying the puck in an attempt to kill time, but Trouba's decision to play as hard as he did here was confusing to say the least given that the game was well and truly out of reach for the Rangers .

These were some pretty healthy whacks coming from Trouba as well and after the first few it looked like he was putting more and more force into each swing, eventually provoking a reaction from Dunn. Dunn, likely feeling the ill effects of those chops to his legs, had finally had enough after about the 6th or 7th slashed on the part of Trouba and immediately turned around and delivered a big punch to the face of the Rangers defenseman. You could call this a sucker punch I suppose but Trouba should have been ready for it given the level of punishment he was delivering to Dunn with his stick. The two boys were not done there however and even though the final whistle had already been blown both men dropped the gloves and proceeded to take some huge swings at one another.

Unfortunately for Trouba he was held back by one of the officials on the ice as Dunn dropped some heavy punches into his face, although some have been quick to call that a little bit of kharma given that it was Trouva who started dishing out the punishment.

Update: Here is a better video, unfortunately this is the only one I've been able to locate of the incident at this time.
