Dylan Cozens has been traded in major move!
TRADE ALERT! Details down below:
The Buffalo Sabres have traded forward Dylan Cozens to the Ottawa Senators. The return is reportedly forward Josh Norris and defenseman Jared Bernard-Docker, going back to Buffalo, with more pieces coming.
FULL TRADE DETAILS, confirmed by teams:
The Senators acquired Dylan Cozens, defenseman Dennis Gilbert, and a 2026 second round pick from the Sabres in exchange fo forward Norris and defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker.
Cozens lands in Canada, though he had previously been linked to another team in the Calgary Flames.
He is in the second year of a seven-year contract with a $7.1 million AAV and a five-team no-trade clause that kicks in for three seasons beginning in 2027-28.
Earlier this morning, the Sabres agreed to a two-year extension with Jason Zucker.
It has been a disappointing season for Cozens in Buffalo, as he put up 11 goals and 31 points through 61 games. He's currently on pace for his second-lowest offensive totals in five NHL seasons.
In Ottawa, as the trade started to get out, it was reported that Norris and Bernard-Docker were pulled from the Senators' practice ahead of a significant contest against the New York Rangers.
When it comes to Norris, he is on an equally pricey contract, currently in the third year of an eight-year contract with a $7.95 million cap hit. Finally healthy, Norris has 20 goals and 13 assists for 33 points in 53 games this season.
Bernard-Docker is a former-first round pick of the Senators, now more of a day-to-day fixture on Ottawa’s back end. However, he’s only played 25 games this season for the Sens, recording just 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points.
Cozens could be inserted in the Senators’ lineup as soon as Saturday afternoon when the Rangers roll into Ottawa.
Norris and Bernard-Docker could make their Sabres debuts later that day when Buffalo against the Panthers in Florida.
