The Detroit Red Wings were eliminated from Stanley Cup playoff contention on Saturday night in pretty spectacular fashion, coughing up 3 different leads to allow the New Jersey Devils to take a 5-3 victory and earning the Red Wings a National Hockey League leading 10th straight season without making the playoffs.

Following the game members of the Red Wings faced tough questions from the media, including Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin who has been a part of the organization for all 10 of those seasons. When asked what went wrong following the conclusion of the game, Larkin placed all of the blame upon his own shoulders.

"That fourth one is on me," said Larkin. "I'm pinching there and two of those guys jump by, it's completely my responsibility to stay back and cover for the D."

Frustration has boiled over among the Red Wings fan base and of course that is about much more than just a single loss or a single season without a playoff appearance. When asked to point to why the Red Wings have struggled so badly in the month of March, Larkin was left at a loss for words.

"I can't point to it," admitted Larkin. "Right now I just keep thinking about that fourth goal. Maybe I'll go to that. Untimely mistakes, it seems to be different guys, but I can't make that mistake at that time of the game and at that point in the season."

Larkin was again pressed on the issue of the Red Wings inability to get things done when the pressure begins to mount, but again Larkin was unable to point to anything tangible in his response.

"We all know it," admitted Larkin. "March and late seasons... I don't have a good answer for you. When it gets tight we come up short and we've talked about it, we've tried different things, and it happened again this year."

Larkin appeared completely dejected when answering questions following the loss, and admitted as much when asked about the reaction from the fans who booed the Red Wings off the ice.
