Fans got very nervous on Tuesday night when Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was suddenly removed from the game against the Dallas Stars in the second period.
For a while, no details were given on why Larkin was removed from the game, which got fans speculating the worse.
Finally, after the game, which the Red Wings lost 5-2 at the hands of the Stars, head coach Jeff Blashill revealed why his captain was taken out of the game.
He was removed from the game due to COVID protocol. Per insider Frank Seravalli, Larkin was tested in the morning (PCR nasal swab) with a positive result that was received by Detroit during the game.
“Obviously, it was in the middle of the game, which is tough,” Blashill said. “We got to figure out exactly where everything stands, talk to Steve (general manager Yzerman) tonight, tomorrow, and figure out what we’re going to do for Thursday.”
The Red Wings continue their four-game road trip without their captain. This is a tough blow for Detroit.
“You go through a sequence of things,” Blashill added. “Right now, he’s out for COVID protocol. I’ll have more update (on Thursday).”
