The Dylan Larkin saga in Detroit has reached a boiling point, with the former Red Wings captain now officially sitting out until his trade request is fulfilled. Several teams have circled the situation, but one franchise has emerged as the most aggressive suitor. The question is whether their best pitch will be enough.

According to Elliotte Friedman's latest 32 Thoughts column, the Minnesota Wild's current offer for Larkin centres on prospect Danila Yurov, an additional veteran roster player, and what Friedman colourfully described as a "Costco of first-round picks." Wild general manager Bill Guerin reportedly believes this package represents the strongest bid on the table right now, even if it may not perfectly align with what Detroit is seeking.

The disconnect between the two sides appears significant. Sources with knowledge of Minnesota's thinking told Daily Face-off that the Red Wings are being "unrealistic" in their asking price. The Wild have reportedly dangled Yurov as the centrepiece of discussions for some time, but that alone has not been enough to satisfy interim Detroit GM Shawn Horcoff.

Larkin's production this season has not helped his trade value. He managed just two goals and six points through 10 games before being suspended for sitting out until moved. Wild sources reportedly indicated there is little appetite to sweeten their offer given those underwhelming numbers.

Another potential wrinkle involves the Philadelphia Flyers, who have reportedly expressed willingness to act as a third-party facilitator. The Flyers could absorb winger Yakov Trenin's $3.5 million AAV contract to help Minnesota manage the salary-cap implications of acquiring Larkin. In return, prospect Charlie Stramel is reportedly a player Philadelphia has interest in.

Larkin's full no-movement clause has complicated matters further. He has been very specific about his preferred destinations, ruling out all Canadian teams and leaving Horcoff with limited leverage in extracting maximum value.

The gap between what Minnesota is offering and what Detroit wants remains wide at this time. Other teams could still leapfrog the Wild if Guerin and Horcoff cannot find common ground soon, and the longer Larkin sits, the more pressure builds on both sides to resolve this standoff.
