Early reports of a coaching change in the NHL

It's less than 20 games into the season, but it's time.

It's time for a change in Nashville... again.

The Nashville Predators have gotten off to a horrendous start this season with a 5-9-4 record and there are reports that all of the team's top veteran players are available on the trade market.

GM Barry Trotz has signed some truly horrendous contracts though recently, so it could be difficult to get out from under deals for the likes of Steven Stamkos, Juuse Saros, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei. So... what's a guy to do?

About the only thing Trotz can do to shake up his team is to make a coaching change.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli reports today that Preds coach Andrew Brunette could be on the chopping block.

From Seravalli:

"The vibes are not high; it seems to be a toxic energy that's there, and they need...to flush that; it's gonna difficult for Trotz to move some of those veteran contracts; I think they have to just make a coaching change."

Brunette is a two time Jack Adams Award nominee as the NHL's best coach, last getting a nomination for his rookie campaign in Nashville back in 2024. So... it's almost as if Brunette isn't the problem at all. Go figure...

If the Preds do indeed fire Brunette, I wouldn't expect their situation to improve much. The team is just a mess at every position and Trotz would be wise to tear it all down and start from scratch.
