There are rumours that the Edmonton Oilers are looking to add another defenseman to their roster sooner rather than later. This could mean that a familiar face could make a return to Edmonton.

Daily Face off’s Frank Seravalli believes the Oilers could be interested in bringing back Tyson Barrie on the back end, especially after losing Philip Broberg to the St. Louis Blues via offer sheet. Seravalli also hinted at Justin Schultz and Kevin Shattenkirk as possible options for the Oilers.

Barrie isn’t the only former Oiler, as Schultz was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and Barrie to the Nashville Predators before the 2023 trade deadline. The latter’s camp as however held conversations with the Oilers and could be welcomed back with open arms as Barrie was a well-liked teammate in the dressing room.

On top of being liked by the current roster, Barrie would be a good fit for the club at this time. He would more than likely love a reunion with the Oilers as Barrie never wanted to leave Edmonton in the first place.

In 41 games last season with the Predators, Barrie put up 15 points while playing 18:19 per game. He could be a great option for Edmonton as it seeks immediate help on the back end.
