The Connor Hellebuyck saga in Winnipeg could finally be nearing its end, as the Jets are reportedly working toward a trade that would send the superstar goaltender to the New Jersey Devils.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Winnipeg Jets and the Devils are actively working on a potential deal involving the three-time Vezina Trophy winner. Additional reports suggest the two teams could be closing in on an agreement, although the exact details of a possible trade remain unknown.

Hellebuyck's potential departure comes after months of uncertainty surrounding his future in Winnipeg. The 33-year-old made his trade request public in late August, revealing that he had asked the organization to move him several months earlier.

The situation escalated when Hellebuyck failed to report to training camp, prompting the Jets to suspend him. That suspension was scheduled to expire on Friday, October 23, adding urgency to the ongoing trade discussions.

A move to New Jersey would give the Devils an opportunity to acquire one of the NHL's premier goaltenders as they look to strengthen their roster. For Winnipeg, meanwhile, trading its franchise netminder would mark the end of a significant chapter in the organization's history.

Hellebuyck remains under contract through the 2030–31 season, carrying an $8.5 million annual salary-cap hit. He also has a full no-movement clause, giving him significant control over any potential destination.

For now, neither team has officially announced a trade, and the return package has yet to be disclosed. However, with Friedman reporting that discussions are underway and other NHL insiders suggesting a deal could be close, Hellebuyck's departure from Winnipeg may be approaching.

If the trade is completed, it would represent one of the biggest goaltending moves of the NHL season.
