Many insiders and pundits have attempted to predict where Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane will be traded ahead of the deadline in March.

No - there is no update there. Kane is still pondering the possibility of being moved to a Cup contender, while many teams get interested in acquiring his services.

However on one of his 32 Thoughts podcasts, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman stated how he believed one contender will be the most likely destination for Kane if the trigger gets pulled in Chicago.

“I do believe that is, until proven otherwise, I think the Rangers are the most likely destination although there are a lot of variables there”.

Friedman made the statement last month, but the sense has grown that the Blue Shirts could be the top pick for Kane if he chooses to move.

As of now, while his Blackhawks aren’t doing as bad as first projected ahead of the 2022-23 season, Chicago will not clinch a playoff spot before Kane hits free agency.

There are issues in a trade in New York, that’s for sure. Kane makes $10.5 million this season and even at half of his salary retained by the Blackhawks, the Rangers would need to shed salary to get Kane on the same roster as his former teammate Artemi Panarin.

Kane’s no-movement clause gives him the power to decide where he wants to be moved, but I don’t see why he would pass on the Rangers, whose rebuild was fast-forwarded by many top additions and now are one of the top contenders in the East.

I tend to agree with Friedman, and he might have spoiled us all by saying that Kane could land in NYC ahead of the trade deadline.
