The Jets hosted the Los Angeles Kings and former player Pierre-Luc Dubois on Tuesday night and to many fans’ surprise, the attendance at the Canada Life Centre in downtown Winnipeg was embarrassingly low.
It was reported that only 11,226 fans attended the game, leaving more than 4,000 empty seats in the rink… The arena’s capacity is 15,324.
It is said to be the lowest attendance — outside of game restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic — since the Jets moved from Atlanta in 2011.
On top of the embarrassing attendance, there was also the performance from the Jets that had nothing grandiose to it… Winnipeg fell 5-1 to the Kings in front of those empty seats…
Dubois, who was booed by his former fanbase, scored in his return to Winnipeg as the Kings built a 5-0 lead and said this after his team’s victory:
“It was an honour to play here,” Dubois said. “They were passionate tonight even when they were booing me, so it was great to see.”
The Kings opened their season with a two-game home stand, falling 5-2 to Colorado and 6-5 to Carolina in a shootout.
Maybe that’s why fans did not show up for this one, hoping to see better results before investing time and money in a game.
