Somebody’s feeling the heat this morning. After Slovakia’s 3-2 victory over Italy in yesterday’s game at the IIHF World Hockey Championships, the team took to the blue line to hear to their country’s national anthem. Except…the sound engineer played Slovenia’s instead. Oops. Slovakia, Slovenia, close enough, right?
The embarrassing mistake was cringe-inducing and all the players could do was look around in disbelief and confusion. Fortunately the assembled crowd of Slovakian faithful managed to drown out their rival’s anthem with cheers and applause.
No word yet today on the employment status of the unfortunate individual who botched the anthem, but whomever is in charge they’ll get a shot at redemption when Slovakia takes on Denmark tomorrow afternoon.
