On Tuesday night, goalie Marc-Andre Fleury started for the Minnesota Wild in what could be his last start in Montreal of his career. He made the most of it and pulled out his vintage style to get his team the 5-2 win at the Bell Center.
Once the game was over, Fleury was named first start of the game and had a curtain call and loud ovation in front of the Montreal fans after his 26-save win.
Very emotional for Fleury, a native of Sorel, Que., who could be playing on Montreal ice for the last time in his career. His family and friends were also there to support him.
Ever since the season got underway, Flower has hinted a few times at the possibility that this could be his last campaign in the NHL.
On top of that, with the victory, Fleury recorded his 545th win and is now just wins six away from tying Patrick Roy for second in all-time wins and is 44 games played away from tying Roy for third all-time.
This was the first and only time this season the Wild played in Montreal and with this being the final year of Fleury’s contract, his curtain call sure felt like the end of something…
After the game, the star goalie told Michael Russo:
“definitely special. Like I told myself at the start of the season, I want to enjoy every moment not knowing if this is it. My teammates played amazing in front of me.”
What a moment.
