On Wednesday morning, the New York Rangers agreed to re-sign forward Matt Rempe to a new contract. According to insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Rempe got a two-year contract, with a total value is $1.95MM with a corresponding $975K AAV and cap hit, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.

Rempe was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.

Due to his fighting and physical style of play, Rempe quickly became a fan favourite in the Big Apple, though his game got him in trouble this past season when he was suspended eight games without pay, for boarding and elbowing Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen back in December.

Rempe is considered a repeat offender and ended up forfeiting $80,000.00.

Rempe played 42 games for the Rangers, recording three goals and five assists for eight points and was a + 7. He fell a little short to his penalty minutes from 2024-25 of 71 where he collected 67 penalty minutes this time around while only plain 8 minutes and 30 seconds of average ice time.

Now that Rempe’s signing is done, general manager Chris Drury can keep working on his roster in what is expected to be a busy offseason in New York.

After trading veteran Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks earlier this summer, more moves are expected as the GM is aiming at changing the chemistry in the dressing room after the Rangers went from winning the Presidents’ Trophy to missing the playoffs over the past two seasons.

But Rempe will be part of that dressing room.
