ESPN anchor unloads on Connor Hellebuyck over recent trade request.

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been a lightning rod for criticism since he went public with his trade demands last week. While he's no stranger to being on the receiving end of criticism in Winnipeg and from the Canadian media, Hellebuyck's poorly timed demand is now drawing some pretty harsh criticism from south of the border as well.

Recently ESPN's Michael Wilbon unloaded on Hellebuyck shortly after Hellebuyck went public with his trade demand, pointing out the absurdity of both when and how Hellebuyck was going about it.

"He's saying 'Oh we need better players' well then be one of them dude!" exclaimed Wilbon during a recent on-air segment. "Be better, they gave you the security you wanted, the money you wanted, they rewarded you."

Wilbon wasn't done there, not only chastising Hellebuyck for so flagrantly choosing not to honor the long term deal he signed with the Jets but also suggesting that the Jets should completely disregard this demand from Hellebuyck.

"You signed the deal, can you not count from 3 to 8?" asked Wilbon. "You don't know what that is? Unbelievable! No. I would call him and his agent and I would say 'We love you, we signed you to this deal. You want a trade? Go to hell!'"

The only scenario in which Wilbon suggested he would even consider a trade would be to potentially send Hellebuyck to a truly miserable situation elsewhere, although he didn't specify where that might be.
