The trade was quite controversial amongst Canucks’ fans and this won’t help make them feel better about Kane’s addition to the roster.
Back in June, the Edmonton Oilers traded forward Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks in return for a fourth round pick in this year’s draft. Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin was immediately met with a lot of backlash from fans once the move was announced and even had to make a statement to explain why he had given a chance to a controversial player like Kane, who always ends up in hot water for one reason or another, saying the past was in the past.
But fans have not been reassured, and Kane’s new teammates may not be as well. Cameras were filming when the new Canucks’ forward was getting interviewed during practice earlier this week, and Kane chirped his new teammates at the rink.
When answering a question from a reporter, Kane was interrupted a few times by pucks hitting the glass and the board, prompting him to say that someone was missing the net too much, and then screaming at his teammates:
“Hit the net!”
While fans always love a good chirp, I don’t know if that’s the right way for Kane to get acquainted with his new teammates in Vancouver.
On top of that, Kane needs to be back to full form and should make sure he has Karma on his side. He missed the entire regular season last year before returning in time for the playoffs, in which he posted six goals and 12 points in 21 games. He had played through injury most of the 2023-24 season, and still led the Oilers in hits while scoring 24 goals.
I cannot wait to see how Kane fits into the Canucks’ dressing room and if the team can gel despite his hot tamper and annoying chirps…
