Two stars collide Saturday afternoon.
We don't see nearly as many fights as we used to in the National Hockey League and it's even less common to see two star level athletes squaring off in the modern era of the sport.
On Saturday afternoon however we got exactly that when Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk and Edmonton Oilers star forward Evander Kane went toe to toe. The bout came at roughly the midway point of the contest and at a point in time when the game was still relatively close, which really got the crowd at Canadian Tire Center energized.
Both men traded some heavy blows, shots that looked like they had some mustard on them, and much to their credit both men took those shots and continued to answer with punches of their own. The bout would eventually end when Kane seemed to lose his balance and fell to the ice, although the Senators captain would give him one final shot on his way down for good measure.
