Evander Kane in hot water in Edmonton...

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has recently reported that forward Evander Kane’s act in Edmonton is wearing thin. Kane, who has drawn the wrath of teammates in the past and found himself off several teams, is reportedly wearing out his welcome as he is struggling this season.

The microscope landed on him this past weekend when he was said to be missing Sunday’s game vs. the Ottawa Senators due to a maintenance day, though no one knows if it was a physical or mental one.

According to Adam Proteau of the Hockey News, there is a sense that the Oilers will approach Kane with a trade opportunity this summer despite his contract clause:

“Kane’s contract, worth $5.125 million annually, has two years remaining after this season. While he has a full no-trade clause until the last season of the current deal ( according to PuckPedia ), Edmonton brass may quietly approach Kane this coming summer to see if it makes sense for both sides to move him to another team.”

There could still be time for Kane to salvage his season if he can show up and make it count during the playoffs, but as of now, the controversial forward seems to be in hot water or on thin ice…

The Oilers may ultimately be the wrong fit in the long term for Kane and if the team can find a fit for him elsewhere, it may be the best decision for all parties involved to move on.

Unless you’re the club that gets him, that might be another story.
