Evander Kane is back with the Edmonton Oilers. Early on Wednesday morning, in the wee hours, Kane himself announced that he is staying in Edmonton on a four-year, $20.5 million contract. The deal comes with a $5.125 million annual cap hit.

He is coming off a one-year, $2.1 million contract.

“Throughout the last 12 months there have been lots of road blocks, tons of adversity and many tough days. I’m grateful for the tremendous amount of support from family, friends, teammates, and others who have helped me stay strong through those difficult times,” Kane wrote in the tweet Tuesday night.

"... A big part of my decision to stay in Edmonton was because of the opportunity given to me only seven months ago but also the chance to be a part of a championship team. I want to win, and I believe after signing this deal, we will be able to add the right pieces along with myself to accomplish that goal, a championship."

He is grateful towards the Oilers for giving him a chance when he was caught up in many controversial situations. It has been especially uneasy seeing his the upcoming arbitration ruling between his former team the San Jose Sharks won’t be resolved before the start of free agency. Kane and the Sharks are having their cases heard by an arbitrator to determine whether or not Kane’s contract was properly terminated and whether or not Kane is entitled to the remaining amount of the remaining $21 million of his seven year contract.

He was also suspended by San Jose for 21 games for submitting a fake vaccine card earlier last season.

Kane joined the Edmonton Oilers midway through the 2021-22 season on a one-year deal after having a previous contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks. Kane put up 22 goals and 17 assists in 43 regular-season games for the Oilers, while adding 13 goals and four assists in 15 playoff games after signing for the team in January.

And now he is back with Connor McDavid for another playoff run.
