TSN’s Ryan Rishaug has just reported that forward Evander Kane is not travelling with the Edmonton Oilers as they head to Calgary to face the Flames in Game 5 of the second-round series on Thursday night.
However, he is expected to join them later as Kane his girlfriend welcomed little Iverson Frank Kane into the world.
Kane’s Game 3 hat trick has and pair of tallies in Game 4 has him at five goals and six points in the four games of the series so far. He hasn’t been ruled in or out for Thursday’s Game 5 yet.
He could ea easily get to Calgary in time for the game if necessary, but with the Oilers leading the series 3-1, some say he wouldn’t need to rush back for Game 5. However, knowing his competitive side, he probably will join his teammates on his own ahead of tomorrow’s matchup.
The Oilers are likely to provide more information on Kane’s status after Thursday’s morning skate or during warmups.
Kane has 12 goals and three assists in 11 playoff contests. He is working hard to get a contract extension in Edmonton.
With his bankruptcy issues and being a new dad, he will need the money.
In December, Kane was granted sole custody of his daughter, Kensington amidst a nasty divorce with estranged wife Anna. A udge ruled that Anna will have professionally supervised visits with their daughter, pending her undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. For the past year, she made allegations against Kane of physical and verbal abuse and infidelity — and also accused Kane of sexual abuse. In the past, she shared that Kane “has gambled away ever dollar he’s ever made and then some” and even accused him of betting on Sharks and other NHL games, which was later investigated by the league. Nothing came of it as Kane kept denying her allegations.
