Evander Kane's new agent has reached out to at least 1 Canadian team.
Kane headed back up North?
It sounds like Evander Kane may already be looking for a way out of San Jose. There have been reports over the last few days suggesting that Kane could very well end up being dealt before ever playing another game for the San Jose Sharks, and now it sounds like Kane himself may be looking to facilitate that process.
According to a report from Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, Evander Kane's new agent Dan Milstein has already started reaching out to teams about the possibility of a trade. Dhaliwal adds that the Sharks would be willing to eat 50% of Kane's current salary in order to make the move happen, something that lines up with what we heard earlier today from New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks.
The biggest nugget from Dhaliwal's report however was the revelation that Milstein has reached out to the struggling Vancouver Canucks, perhaps a sign that Kane would have interest in returning to his home province of British Columbia to play out the remainder of his current contract.
Earlier today the Sharks put Kane on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to the American Hockey League, and if the reports are to be believed there is no chance that Kane will be claimed on waivers come tomorrow. After all why would a team willingly take on Kane's full cap hit at $7 million when they know the Sharks are willing to eat $3.5 million of that in a trade? It would be one of the worst moves in the history of the National Hockey League.
That being said, it sounds like Kane is willing to report to the AHL and work his way back into an NHL team according to his agent.
"Over the past few weeks, we have been discussing Evander’s return to San Jose," said Milstein in a statement published on Sunday. "We were not surprised by the Sharks’ decision to put him on waivers and, if he does clear, he will report to the Barracudas. Evander is looking forward to resuming his NHL career this season."
The Vancouver Canucks have not been a good team this season, and adding a polarizing figure like Kane to that mix feels like a recipe for disaster.
