On Wednesday night, Evander Kane had a wide-open net but he passed the puck anyway to his captain to secure a 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The Edmonton Oilers forward had his first goal of the 2022-23 season on the tip of his stick, however, he dropped the puck off to Connor McDavid so he could tie an NHL record for season-opening hat tricks.

That has to be one of the rare occasion where we’ve seen a selfless move from Kane.

“I’ve been around a long time. So you recognize the situation of the game, who’s out there, and I figured he’s a pretty good player so if I put it in his vicinity he’ll put it in. Nice to see him score a hat trick,” Kane explained after the game.

However, Kane’s classy move cost one fan a lot of money! One woman sounded off on Twitter, sharing how she had made a bet on Wednesday evening, making the bold predictions that Seth Jarvis of the Carolina Hurricanes, Valeri Nichushkin of the Colorado Avalanche, David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins and William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs would all score a goal in their respective games.

All she needed to collect the winnings of $802.03 on her $5.50 bet was a goal from Kane in Edmonton.

And he pulled the classy move to pass the puck to his captain…

You have to understand her frustration when she saw Kane voluntarily giving away the puck and collecting just the assist on the play.

The funny thing is that a few other fans had bet that McDavid would record a hat trick on the Oilers’ home opener, and were right in the end, thanks to Kane.

The misfortune of that poor fan got others to acquire a fortune of their own.

Hockey is an unpredictable game and so is betting!
