Evander Kane is taking his talents to Russia.

According to David Pagnotta, agent Dan Milstein has confirmed that his client will play in the KHL this season, marking a surprising turn in the veteran forward's career after he spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Vancouver Canucks. We await more details on which team and possible financial terms.

Kane recorded 31 points in 71 games with Vancouver last season. While those numbers were relatively modest by his standards, they demonstrated that he could still contribute at the NHL level, even after a quieter offensive campaign than he had enjoyed in previous years.

The 35-year-old has put together a lengthy NHL career, collecting 648 points in 1,001 regular-season games. He has suited up for the Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers and Canucks, building a reputation as a physical winger who can bring both toughness and offensive production.

However, finding another NHL opportunity has apparently proven difficult. The market for veteran forwards can become increasingly limited as teams finalize their rosters, and Kane's off-ice reputation has been another consideration for clubs weighing whether to pursue him.

The move to the KHL does not necessarily mean Kane's NHL career is over. Players have previously headed overseas before eventually returning to North America when another opportunity emerged.

For now, though, Kane appears set to begin a new chapter in Russia. After more than 1,000 NHL games, the veteran winger is preparing for a change of scenery, and it remains to be seen whether this will be a temporary detour or the beginning of a longer stay overseas.
