Earlier this week it was announced that the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane had come to terms on a settlement agreement. The two sides have been engaged in a dispute over Kane's contract with the Sharks, a contract that the Sharks terminated on Jan. 9, 2022 when they believed Kane was in breach of that contract.

Now it would seem that Kane is looking to mend some fences following the conclusion of that dispute, with the Oilers forward recently taking to social media to speak out regarding his time in San Jose. In spite of the fact that such a dispute, especially when so much money is involved, likely caused more than a little anger and perhaps even some hurt feelings, Kane had nothing but nice things to say after the dust had settled.

"I played some of my best hockey in San Jose and gave everything I had on the ice," said Kane via his Twitter. "I really enjoyed playing in front of the sharks fans and appreciate my loyal fans who have supported me throughout. Adversity can either break you or make you stronger, it certainly made me stronger. I'm happy to finally close that chapter of my hockey career. Edmonton let's go!"

As we now know, Kane would spend some time in limbo following the termination of his contract but would eventually make his way onto the Edmonton Oilers roster last season where he did find some success. Following that success the Oilers would sign Kane to a 4 year contract worth $20.5 million, which works out to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $5.125 million over the 4 years.

Kane was however earning considerably more on his Sharks contract, nearly $2 million more per year when averaged out, and according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli the settlement between the parties earlier this week will seek to address that discrepancy.

This would appear to indicate that the Sharks will be making Kane whole when it comes to the amount of money he would have been earning on his former contract with their organization. That certainly could help explain the positive vibes he was sending out following the settlement.
