The Edmonton Oilers got off to a great start in Game 3 on Saturday night, but a rather ill advised decision from Oilers forward Evander Kane has threatened to wipe away that strong start.
Barely a minute into Game 3, Kane was involved in an incident that earned him a major penalty and one that may have left Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri seriously injured. After the Oilers had taken a 1 - 0 lead, with Oilers captain Connor McDavid scoring on the very first shot of the game, Kane would drive Kadri hard into the boards with a completely unnecessary crosscheck.
Not only was it a dangerous play on the part of Kane but it was one that cost his team dearly with the officials immediately calling a 5 minute major on the ice and upholding that call upon review. Thankfully for the Oilers they would manage to kill off the penalty without giving up a goal to the Avalanche, but that isn't going to do Nazem Kadri any favors.
We still don't have an official update on his status from the Avalanche, but we will bring that to you when it happens.
