Mike Smith will start in goal for the Edmonton Oilers Friday night in Game 2 of their series against the Calgary Flames. Smith was pulled in Game 1 on Wednesday after allowing three goals on 10 shots. The Oilers wound up losing 9-6.
And this is the weak vote of confidence he is given by teammate Evander Kane:
"If we don't give up nine goals tonight, I really like our chances."
Well.. .Kane, you too have to do better. Kane was caught in a chirping war with Flames’ Matthew Tkachuk during Game 1, which landed him in the penalty box. Once Tkachuk got out - before Kane - he scored as Kane sat their helpless in the sin bin.
Kane ended with no shots on goals, four hits and two penalty minutes in just under 20 minutes of ice time.
On top of commenting the amount of goals scored in the previous game, Kane was also asked about Flames’ Milan Lucic, who is known to rough up feathers on the ice.
Kane did not back down and even appeared to taunt Lucic ahead of Game 2.
“We welcome him on the ice whenever he is.”
I bet we’re up for another intense Battle of Alberta tonight!
