It's rare to hear National Hockey League players come out and publicly request that their team sign a player, and even more rare when those type of comments come from a superstar level player.
That being said, that appears to be exactly what Russian forward Evgeni Malkin did recently according to a report from Russian hockey insider Igor Eronko of Sports Express.
Malkin expressed the fact that he would like the Penguins to acquire controversial Russian forward Danis Zaripov, a player recently banned by the IIHF for performance enhancing drugs.
"I'd like to see Danis Zaripov in Penguins, said Malkin. "I'd enjoy playing with him on one line."
It will be interesting to see how the Penguins, and more importantly general manager Jim Rutherford, react to the pressure from one of their top stars.
