Evgeni Malkin wows with his 500th career goal followed by emotional celebration!
This is one you’ve got to see.
Geno has done it. Evgeni Malkin has just become the 48th player in NHL history to score 500 career goals, and joining countryman Alex Ovechkin as the only Russian-born players in NHL history to reach that mark.
The accomplishment took place on Wednesday night, in the third period of a game that was tied at 3 against the Buffalo Sabres.
Malkin managed to beat goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on his own rebound as he fell to the ice, and scored a beauty. The Penguins’ bench then cleared to celebrate on the ice with the Russian forward.
In the fairytale that this is, Sidney Crosby, Geno’s long-time teammate, close buddy and captain, collected the assist on the play.
It was milestone night in Pittsburgh after Crosby collected his 1600th point on his first assist of the game.
The contest started off pretty bad for the Penguins, after goalie Tristan Jarry was beaten three times on five shots only.
Things then started to pick up for the crowd’s favourites and fans were more than willing to get out of their seats for the 500th time for Geno.
Way to go, boys!
