Ex-Leaf Andrew Raycroft blasts Montreal Canadiens fans

Tell us how you really feel!

Michael W.

Juny 24, 2006 is a day that Toronto Maple Leafs fans will forever hold in infamy, as they traded Finnish prospect goaltender Tuukka Rask to the Original 6 rival Boston Bruins in exchange for Andrew Raycroft. Of course, it may not have seemed like a such a bad deal at the time, as Raycroft was only two years removed from having earned the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year, while Rask was still relatively unknown in NHL circles.

Needless to say, the Leafs would have voided that trade in an instant had they known that Rask would go on to be one of the top goaltenders in hockey for over a decade, while Raycroft would soon earn the less than flattering nickname by the Leafs fan base of "Red Light Raycroft". After two years in Toronto, Raycroft would bounce around the NHL and earn the reputation as a journeyman. He played for the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Dallas Stars before heading overseas to continue his professional career.

During his time with the Bruins and Leafs, Raycroft certainly grew accustomed to facing the Original 6 rival of both teams in the Montreal Canadiens, and certainly familiarized himself with the frenzied fans that routinely packed Bell Centre in downtown Montreal for those matchups. So you can certainly understand why to this day, Raycroft isn't exactly fond of the rabid fan base that belongs to the Habs. In fact, he took to social media to offer his thoughts on the Top 10 Most Annoying Fan Bases list compiled by Canadian online sports betting giant Bodog.

"Montreal Canadiens," he wrote in response to the list. "Not even close."
