Former Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm, who became best known for his blazing speed on the ice as well as winning the Stanley Cup in his very first year in the NHL, has decided to hang up the skates.

Helm announced his retirement earlier today after 16 years, 14 of which were played with Detroit. He would later play a role in the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup in 2022, scoring the game winning goal in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semi Final against the St. Louis Blues.

In 823 career NHL games, Helm racked up 119 goals, 147 assists and 256 PIM. He also appeared in 103 career postseason games, scoring 13 goals with 13 assists.

Best of luck to Helm in his retirement!
